Trip to New York

Study Trip to Jewish New York
In order to commemorate the 350th anniversary of Jews in the New World, Dr. Bettina Hofmann from the University of Wuppertal, together with Dr. Ulrike Schrader from the Begegnungsstätte Alte Synagoge, organized a series of events with lectures, readings, a film series, and a concert.
Soon a students' group formed who chose the movies for the film series and prepared an introductory evening at the local cinema in Barmen.
Then suddenly one student had a daring, but brilliant idea: “Now let's go the sites ourselves, let's go to New York City.” Financially supported by the University (Fachbereich A and Rektorat), the Fachschaft Lehramt, the Freunde der Bergischen Universität, and the DAAD as well as a sponsor, we were able to make this extraordinary wish come true.
Here is where we went, whom we met, and what impressions we took home. We learned very much and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We hope you can enjoy our virtual trip as well!
We would like to thank the DAAD, the Bergische Universität (Fachbereich A and Rektorat), the Fachschaft Lehramt, and the Freunde der Bergischen Universität. Our thanks go also out to Congregation B'nai Jeshurun, Professor Jeffrey Gurock und Pamela Gurock, Rabbi Hirsch, Rabbi Shirley Idelson, Dr. Frank Mecklenburg, Professor Ray Scheindlin, Carl und Rhonda Steeg, Dr. Carol Kahn Strauss, Jack und Louise Terry, Cornelia Wilhlem, and Professor Wolter.
