Department of Chemistry and Biology

All scientific courses of studies in Chemistry and related subjects (exemption: food chemistry with state examination) are based on the international Bachelor (3 years) / Master (2 years) system.
All programs are certified by independent official organizations (e.g. Certificate)

In general, the courses are taught in German (presentations within seminars, thesis etc. may also be given in English).

The curricula are based on ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).

The tuition fees per semester (i.e. 1300 € per year) are 500 € plus 212.69 € covering for social services, the student union and free public transport on the regional network throughout the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
Highly qualified applicants as well as those graduating from TestAS (www.testas.de) with a percentage better than 60 may apply for exemption.

Foreign students with basic knowledge of the german language are encouraged to send their application

• officially certified copies of qualifiying degrees, e.g. the bachelor or equivalent degree, the diploma supplement and the transcript of records, either in German or English, in case of application for a Masters program.
• a short letter of motivation stating your choice and knowledge in the disciplinary science.
• if available, certificates of German language abilities.

In Wuppertal, a 2 years Master program (120 credit points, including 30 credits for the Master thesis) with two elective subjects are offered

• Synthesis und Properties of Active Ingredients und Functional Materials
• Molecular Environmental Chemistry

Admission Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in Chemistry or an equivalent subject
• if issued by a German university: an overall grade equal or better than 3.0 (German system)
• if issued abroad: an oral admission examination (duration ca. 30 min) or
  a GRE-Test in chemistry

 
Food Chemistry is studied as "Staatsexamensstudiengang" (state examination, 9 semesters) with regulated admission.
