The University of Wuppertal with the Department of Chemistry is located in the district Wuppertal-Elberfeld
(Gaußstraße) ca. 1 km south of the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) or the
"Schwebebahnstation Döppersberg".
All facilities of the department (buildings D, G, H, L) are best reached via the main entrance (Building G; Entrance level 08 with Information/Pförtner).
Arrival by Plane
From Airport Düsseldorf take the suburban train (S-Bahn S1 or S7) to Hauptbahnhof Düsseldorf
(ca. 12 min), change to a local train (RE) or the S-Bahn S8 (direction of Hagen, platform 13) to Wuppertal
Hbf (ca. 30 min). ---> continue as given for "Arrival by Train". For the total distance Airport
- UNI Wuppertal you need a ticket of the price category B which is available at ticket machines or the DB counter at the airport,
located directly at the entrance to the S-Bahn. Do not forget to stamp the ticket before getting on the train
(stamp machines are on the platform).
Arrival by Train
Arrival at Hauptbahnhof Wuppertal. Busses are within easy reach via the pedestrian tunnel. Bus numbers
615 (direction of Remscheid) or 645 (direction of Küllenhahn/Burgholz) leave ca. every 10 min from
platform 6 for the university (Stop "Universität", takes ca. 10 min).
Tickets of price category A are available either from the driver (cash, coins only) or at ticket machines
(in that case do not forget to have the ticket stamped by the machines on the platform or in the bus).
Arrival by Car
Coming from the north or south via the A1, take exit #94 "Wuppertal-Ronsdorf". If travelling
from the north on the A43, transfer to the A1 at the interchange "Wuppertal-Nord", direction "Köln".
At exit #94 get on the B51, direction "Wuppertal-Elberfeld", after ca. 1.5 km at a traffic light turn left, direction Elberfeld.
Follow the major road ca. 5 km to the exit "Universität". Keep to the right, then downhill to a traffic circle which you leave
via the opposite way out ("Obere Grifflenberg"). At the next traffic light turn left into the "Gaußstraße"
which leads directly to the main entrance of the university and the parking garages (Parkhaus, open until 10 p.m. within the
semester term, otherwise 8 p.m.). There are no special parking lots for guests or staff members. The best is to enter
Parkhaus PC which is directly reached via "Gaußstraße". Crossing to Parkhaus PB is possible
from the top level of PC.
Coming from the west via the Autobahn A46, leave at exit #31 "Wuppertal-Cronenberg/Ronsdorf".
After passing through a tunnel (Kiesbergtunnel), follow the thoroughfare towards "Wuppertal-Ronsdorf" and "Universität".
The parking garages PA (very narrow) and PB are reached from the "Max-Horkheimer-Straße".
The exits on the top level lead to the "Gaußstraße" with the main entrance.
